March 20, 2002 - 5:39 p.m. Nausea sucks. As most of you who know me probably have noted at one time or another, I have a weird GI system. I can survive (or maybe thrive) on the most foul gas station cuisine you can imagine (i.e. pickled eggs, "Red Hot" sausages, etc.) with no real ill effect. However, every once in a while, some stupid little thing will come along and screw up my whole system. Like that brownie/ice cream thing they serve at Applebee's. Just kills me. Well, apparently, we can add chocolate Slim-Fast drinks to that. So, here's the deal. I have just started a new exercise routine and, as it turns out, chocolate Slim-Fasts have the exact right carb-to-protein ratio to be the perfect after-workout snack. At least, perfect for most people. Apparently, it's like gut napalm for me. I have been massively nauseous for about 24 hours after downing one of those drinks. To make matters worse, today, like most Wednesdays, I substituted for my wife as a preschool teacher at the hippie school where she works. Dealing with 4- and 5-year-olds hopped up on hippie snacks while dealing with my GI problems -- fun for hours. Nausea sucks.
